Authorities in Karachi have announced the official Qasai rates for Eidul Azha 2026, setting charges for the slaughter of different sacrificial animals during the three days of Eid.
According to the Empress Market Meat Merchants Association, the slaughter fee for a cow or heifer on the first day of Eid has been fixed between Rs18,000 and Rs20,000. The rates apply to regular-sized animals and may vary depending on the size and location.
Officials said the Qasai charges are usually highest on the first day of Eid because demand remains very strong. Many families prefer to perform qurbani immediately after Eid prayers, leading to advance bookings for butchers across the city.
The association also announced that goat slaughter charges have been set at Rs4,000. Meanwhile, the fee for slaughtering a camel ranges between Rs40,000 and Rs50,000 due to the larger size and extra labour required for the process.
For larger sacrificial animals weighing around two to 2.5 maunds, slaughter rates may range from Rs14,000 to Rs18,000. Goat slaughter services for animals weighing nearly 20 kilograms may cost between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000 in some areas.
Representatives of the meat merchants association stated that Qasai rates are expected to decline by nearly 30 percent on the second and third days of Eidul Azha. They said demand generally decreases after the first day, which results in lower service charges.
Sources added that butchers across Karachi receive heavy booking requests before Eid every year. Many skilled workers remain fully booked days before the festival begins. Due to time limitations and increased workload, some butchers charge extra fees for urgent services.
In several areas, additional payments are also taken for cleanliness arrangements and safe disposal of animal waste. Authorities have advised citizens to use trained butchers and follow hygiene guidelines during qurbani activities.
Eidul Azha is one of the most important Islamic festivals and is marked by the sacrifice of animals in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) obedience to Allah. Millions of Muslims perform qurbani every year and distribute meat among relatives and deserving families.
Karachi administration and local authorities are also expected to monitor sanitation conditions during Eid days to ensure proper waste collection and public cleanliness across the city.
