Punjab Prepares Rs. 1.45 Trillion Development Budget for FY2026-27

The Punjab government has prepared the second draft of its budget proposals for the fiscal year 2026-27. Officials involved in the planning process said the provinceโ€™s development budget may reach Rs. 1.45 trillion.

According to sources, Punjab is focusing heavily on infrastructure and public service projects in the upcoming budget. Transport has emerged as the largest priority sector in the proposed development program.

Officials said projects worth Rs. 303 billion are expected to receive funding under the transport sector. The allocation reflects the governmentโ€™s continued efforts to improve urban mobility and road connectivity across Punjab.

The draft budget also proposes Rs. 980 billion for the Annual Development Programme (ADP). This program includes infrastructure, public welfare, and community development projects throughout the province.

Several major projects have been included in the proposed budget. These include the construction of smart police stations in Okara, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Multan, Gujranwala, and Pakpattan.

Punjab is also considering additional development projects in Lahore and other major cities. The proposed budget includes funding for clean drinking water schemes and the expansion of the Model Villages program.

Officials said Punjab may allocate Rs. 30 billion for Model Villages projects. Another Rs. 42 billion has been proposed for a roads rehabilitation program aimed at improving road infrastructure in different districts.

The local government sector is also expected to receive major funding in the upcoming budget. Sources said a proposed allocation of Rs. 250 billion has been recommended for local government development.

Out of this amount, Rs. 156 billion is expected to be used for local development projects. Authorities are also reviewing proposals to increase the financial powers of elected local government representatives.

The draft budget further proposes Rs. 560 million for the Local Government IT Monitoring System. This project aims to improve monitoring and transparency in local government operations.

In addition, Punjab is considering allocating Rs. 50 billion for sewerage and road rehabilitation projects at the union council level. These projects are expected to improve basic infrastructure and public facilities in both urban and rural areas.
