Pakistan to Host ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028

AHMEDABAD – The International Cricket Council has confirmed key decisions regarding future global tournaments, including the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028.

Pakistan has officially been awarded the hosting rights for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028. However, India will play its matches at a neutral venue due to ongoing arrangements between the two boards.

The announcement was made after an ICC Board meeting held in Ahmedabad. The council also approved several recommendations from its Chief Executives Committee.

The decision regarding the T20 World Cup 2028 has been seen as a major development in women’s cricket. It highlights Pakistan’s growing role as a host of international cricket events. The tournament is expected to bring top teams from around the world.

Officials confirmed that the arrangement for India’s matches will follow a neutral venue model. This approach has been used in previous multi-nation tournaments as well.

Alongside the T20 World Cup 2028 announcement, the ICC approved several other changes. A trial use of the pink ball in Test cricket has been allowed. This decision aims to improve playing conditions in low light situations.

The ICC also increased the break time between innings in T20 Internationals to 15 minutes. This change is expected to improve player recovery and match quality.

In addition, the Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 has been rescheduled. It will now take place from February 14 to 28, 2027. Earlier plans had placed it in the June–July window.

The ICC Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 will now include 10 teams. These will consist of five Full Members and five Associate nations. A 16-team global qualifier has also been introduced for the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Cricket governance updates were also discussed. Cricket Canada’s membership has been suspended due to serious breaches. However, its national team will still participate in ICC events.

The ICC also sent delegations to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to review cricket board operations and elections.

Officials further expressed concern over the rise of franchise leagues. A committee will now examine how to balance international cricket schedules with franchise competitions.
