Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is preparing a major operation against non-filers who publicly display signs of wealth on social media but do not pay taxes that match their apparent lifestyle.
According to reports, the campaign is expected to begin on October 1. The initiative will focus on individuals who regularly share content featuring luxury vehicles, expensive homes, designer jewelry, lavish vacations, and high-cost events while remaining outside the tax system.
Officials plan to monitor social media activity between July and September. During this period, authorities will collect and review data to identify potential cases of tax evasion. The information gathered will then be analyzed before enforcement actions begin.
Sources say the FBR will work closely with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to verify identities and compare available records with visible spending patterns. The objective is to determine whether an individual’s declared income matches their lifestyle and public activities.
Under the proposed strategy, authorities may issue notices to people suspected of avoiding taxes. Individuals who receive notices could be asked to explain the source of their income and provide relevant financial documentation.
The move reflects growing efforts by the government to improve tax compliance and expand the country’s tax base. Officials believe that social media can provide valuable information when assessing whether individuals are accurately reporting their income.
The planned operation is expected to focus on non-filers who maintain a visible online presence and frequently post content showing luxury assets or expensive lifestyles. Authorities will reportedly examine spending patterns and compare them with financial records available through official channels.
Supporters of the initiative argue that all citizens should contribute fairly to the tax system according to their income and assets. They believe stronger enforcement measures can help improve revenue collection and reduce tax evasion.
The FBR has not yet released detailed guidelines regarding the operation. However, reports indicate that further action may be taken after authorities complete their analysis of social media activity and financial records.

If implemented as planned, the campaign could become one of the most significant tax enforcement drives in recent years. It would also highlight the increasing role of digital platforms in identifying potential tax irregularities and strengthening compliance efforts across the country.
