Iran Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz After Fresh US Strikes

Iran Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz After Fresh US Strikes

Iran has claimed that it carried out missile and drone attacks on several American military facilities across the Gulf region. The strikes were described as retaliation for recent US military operations. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the operation targeted multiple bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

According to Iranian officials, the affected sites included Ali Al Salem and Ahmad Al Jaber air bases in Kuwait, along with Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. State media also reported a drone strike targeting the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Iranian authorities said the first phase of their missile and drone campaign had been completed, suggesting a temporary operational closure of this phase of attacks.

Military sources in Iran stated that the actions were a direct response to US strikes in southern Iran. They added that a missile was also fired at an F-16 aircraft allegedly operating over the Persian Gulf. Iranian reports claimed the aircraft retreated after the missile launch. Officials warned that further escalation could follow if tensions continue, while also signaling an operational closure of the initial strike phase.

In a separate statement, Iranโ€™s senior joint military command announced restrictions on maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities warned that vessels attempting to pass through the area could be targeted. Iranian media further claimed that two vessels were hit for violating these restrictions. The announcement was described as part of a wider security measure, though officials did not confirm any long-term closure of the waterway.

On the other side, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had completed self-defense strikes inside Iran. The operations reportedly targeted communication systems, air defense installations, surveillance networks, and other military infrastructure. CENTCOM stated that no US warship had been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and that commercial shipping continued to move through the region without interruption. US officials also rejected claims of any operational closure of maritime traffic routes.

Meanwhile, reports from US media suggested rising tensions within Washington over Iranโ€™s response to earlier proposals. Senior officials were quoted saying that frustration had grown after limited Iranian reactions. The report also linked recent military decisions to broader strategic planning, marking what analysts described as a potential closure of diplomatic space for immediate negotiations.

As both sides exchange strikes and warnings, the situation remains highly unstable. Observers say that further developments will determine whether this phase leads to de-escalation or a wider regional confrontation.
