The Supreme Court has approved a 100% increase in utility allowance for its employees and officers. The decision was taken in view of rising inflation and higher electricity and gas costs.
According to official details, the approval was granted by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi. The revised structure will take effect from July 1, 2026.
The court stated that the 100% increase was necessary due to the growing financial burden on employees. Utility expenses have significantly increased across the country.
Under the new plan, employees in Grades 1 to 6 will now receive Rs12,000 per month. Earlier, they were receiving Rs6,000.
For Grades 7 to 10, the allowance has been increased from Rs8,000 to Rs16,000 per month. This reflects a clear 100% increase in this category as well.
Employees in Grades 11 to 15 will now get Rs20,000 instead of Rs10,000. Grade 16 officers will receive Rs24,000 monthly, compared to Rs12,000 earlier.
Senior officers will also benefit from the revised structure. Grade 17 officers will now receive Rs30,000 per month.
Grade 18 officers will get Rs36,000, while Grade 19 officers will receive Rs42,000 monthly. These figures were previously half of the new amounts.
Grade 20 officers will now receive Rs48,000 per month, up from Rs24,000. Meanwhile, Grade 21 and above officers will receive Rs60,000 instead of Rs30,000.
The court confirmed that the allowance is specifically designed to cover electricity and gas expenses. It aims to reduce financial pressure caused by rising utility bills.
Officials said the 100% increase will be managed within the approved federal budget for the fiscal year 2026โ27. No additional budgetary burden has been created outside the allocated funds.
The decision highlights ongoing efforts to adjust public sector benefits in line with inflation. It also reflects broader economic challenges faced by employees across institutions.
The revised allowance structure is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of court employees and officers nationwide.
