A recent Karachi pen bomb incident took a surprising turn after police confirmed that the explosion was not caused by a bomb. Authorities said the blast was actually caused by a firecracker.
According to Karachi police, a case has now been registered against a young man for giving false information to law enforcement agencies. The case was filed at Khokhrapar police station.
The incident first gained attention when Abdul Sami claimed he was injured in a Karachi pen bomb explosion. He told police that he had picked up a shiny pen-like object near the Model Colony Railway Track, and it exploded in his hand.
Based on his statement, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) initially treated the case as a possible explosives incident. A case was registered under terrorism and explosives laws.
Police had also sealed the area and collected forensic evidence. At that time, officials suspected it could be a dangerous Karachi pen bomb.
However, further investigation changed the case completely. Police later found that the object was not an explosive device.
During questioning, Abdul Sami admitted that he was injured by a firecracker. Investigators said he had bought the firecracker for his cousinโs birthday celebration.
Officials confirmed that there was no Karachi pen bomb involved in the incident. They said the youth had provided false details, which led to unnecessary security concerns.
Abdul Sami suffered injuries to his fingers and face and was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical treatment.
Police have taken him into protective custody while legal proceedings continue. Authorities said they are reviewing the case details after the latest findings.
The incident has raised concerns about false reports and their impact on law enforcement resources. Officials urged the public to avoid spreading incorrect information, especially in sensitive cases.

Forensic analysis of the recovered material is still underway, but police say the evidence strongly supports the firecracker explanation.
