The Punjab Excise Department has suspended the registration of 850,000 Vehicles due to non-payment of token tax. The action comes as authorities intensify tax recovery efforts during the final days of the current financial year.
According to officials, the registrations of defaulting Vehicles have been blocked in the system. These Vehicles will remain suspended until all outstanding token tax dues are cleared.
The decision was taken as part of a province-wide campaign to improve tax collection before the close of the fiscal year. Excise authorities have directed strict enforcement measures across Punjab, including Lahore, to recover pending revenue.
Officials stated that more than 1.75 million Vehicles pay token tax annually across the province. A large number of owners have already fulfilled their obligations during the current tax cycle.
According to available figures, more than 875,000 vehicle owners have paid over Rs9 billion in token tax. However, another 850,000 vehicle owners still have outstanding dues amounting to more than Rs9 billion.
The Excise Department has instructed field officers to take strong action against defaulters. Authorities said the recovery drive will continue until June 30, which marks the end of the financial year.
Excise and Taxation Officers have been directed to conduct enforcement operations from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. They are also required to submit regular reports on tax collection activities to the Director General’s office.
Officials emphasized that no suspended vehicle record will be restored until the required token tax has been paid. The system will continue to block registrations of defaulters until all dues are cleared.
The move is intended to increase compliance and encourage vehicle owners to pay their taxes on time. Authorities believe that recovering pending revenue will help strengthen provincial finances and improve public services.
Vehicle owners have been advised to verify their tax status and clear any outstanding payments as soon as possible. Failure to do so may result in continued registration suspension and other administrative complications.
