A powerful Cloudburst triggered destructive flash floods in Thore Valley of Diamer district on Saturday, causing widespread damage to homes, farmland, roads, and public infrastructure. Authorities have launched relief operations as affected families struggle to recover from the disaster.
According to officials, heavy rainfall over the surrounding mountains caused the Cloudburst, sending massive volumes of floodwater rushing through Thore Valley. The fast-moving water swept away homes, orchards, and hundreds of acres of cultivated land, leaving a trail of destruction across the area.
Several link roads and communication bridges were washed away during the flooding. As a result, many villages became cut off from nearby towns and essential services. Dozens of families were forced to leave their homes after the floodwaters damaged or destroyed their properties.
The Cloudburst also disrupted electricity and water supply systems in the affected region. Parked vehicles were swept away by the strong currents, while standing crops suffered heavy losses. Local residents now face serious challenges as they try to rebuild their lives.
The flooding also impacted the Wapda Colony, where employees working on the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project reside. Nearby settlements also reported extensive damage to homes and infrastructure due to the powerful floodwaters.
Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) Assistant Director General Imtiaz Ahmed said the district administration responded immediately after the disaster. Relief teams reached the affected areas and began distributing tents, food supplies, and other essential items to displaced families.
Officials said damage assessment teams are currently surveying the affected villages to determine the full extent of the losses. Authorities have also managed to reopen the valley’s main road and are continuing efforts to restore access to isolated communities.
Residents have appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance. Many families require temporary shelters, food, clean drinking water, medical support, and other basic necessities after losing their homes and belongings.
Meanwhile, the flood risk remains high due to continued glacier melting across Gilgit-Baltistan. Persistent high temperatures have accelerated glacier melt, causing water levels in rivers and streams to rise significantly.
Flooding in Sadpara Nallah blocked the Deosai Road, leaving several tourist vehicles stranded. Water erosion also damaged the road connecting the Badswat area in Ghizer district. Rising water levels in Hopper Nallah have affected crops and continue to threaten roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.

Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious and follow official weather advisories. Emergency teams remain on alert as changing weather conditions could increase the risk of further flooding in the coming days.
