Ali Mardan Domki has been designated as the caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan following a decision by the parliamentary panel on Friday. This selection comes after extensive discussions and negotiations between the ruling party and the opposition within the Balochistan parliamentary committee. The move was made to oversee the transitional phase leading up to the upcoming general elections.
The appointment of Ali Mardan Domki as caretaker Chief Minister received approval from Governor Balochistan, Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar. The six-member parliamentary committee includes figures such as outgoing Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, government representatives Zamrak Achakzai and Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, as well as opposition members Abdul Wahid Siddiqui, Younus Zehri, and Ahmed Nawaz.

While opposition leader Malik Sikandar engaged in discussions with Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, a definitive decision on the appointment couldn’t be reached initially. In the event of a lack of consensus, the matter would have been referred to the Parliamentary Committee.
In another region, Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqar has been nominated as the eighth caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, following discussions between the Chief Minister and the opposition leader.
The role of the caretaker Chief Minister is crucial, particularly in Balochistan, given its strategic significance. This phase paves the way for the upcoming general elections, aiming to uphold law and order, ensure essential services’ continuity, and provide a suitable atmosphere for political campaigns.
Who is Ali Khan Domki ?
Ali Mardan Khan Domki, born on October 13, 1972, hails from Lahri area in Balochistan. He earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from Allama Iqbal University, Islamabad. He has previously served as Tehsil Nazim Lahri and District Nazim Sabi. His father, Mir Hazor Bakhsh Domki, was a senator from 1975 to 1977, and his brother, Dostin Domki, has been a Balochistan Assembly Member and Minister of State.
