The Punjab government has officially ended the Pension Limit that previously restricted widow pension payments to 10 years. Under the revised policy, eligible widows and unmarried daughters will now receive pension benefits for life.
The decision was approved during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Following the cabinet’s approval, the Punjab Finance Department issued an official notification confirming the policy change.
The latest decision reverses the previous rule that introduced a 10-year Pension Limit for widows after the death of a government employee. With the new policy in place, eligible beneficiaries will continue receiving pension without any fixed time restriction.
According to the revised rules, widows will receive lifetime pension support. Unmarried daughters of deceased government employees will also remain eligible for lifelong pension benefits under the updated policy.
The government also clarified how pension payments will be handled in special family situations. If a deceased government employee had more than one wife, the pension amount will be divided equally among all eligible widows.
However, the policy includes a condition regarding remarriage. A widow’s pension will end immediately if she remarries. This rule remains unchanged under the revised pension system.
The restoration of lifetime pension aims to provide long-term financial support to families of deceased government employees. Officials believe the move will improve financial security for widows and unmarried daughters who depend on these benefits.
The earlier policy had received criticism because it limited pension payments to only 10 years. Many believed the restriction created financial uncertainty for families after the benefit period ended. By removing the Pension Limit, the Punjab government has returned to the previous system of lifelong pension support.
The Finance Department’s notification formally implements the cabinet’s decision. Government departments are expected to follow the updated rules while processing pension cases.
The revised policy is expected to benefit thousands of eligible families across Punjab. It also provides greater clarity regarding pension eligibility and payment procedures.
The Punjab government says the decision reflects its commitment to supporting families of deceased public servants. Restoring lifetime pension benefits is intended to reduce financial hardship and provide continued assistance to eligible dependents.
