LAHORE: The Lahore Metro Bus Service could face suspension from August 11, 2026. The operator has issued a final warning over an ongoing fuel funding dispute.
VEDA operates the Lahore Metro Bus Service (LMBS). It has warned the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) about the possible shutdown.
In a letter to the PMA managing director, VEDA said its financial resources were exhausted. The company said it could not continue operations without fuel funding.
The warning is linked to a court order issued on July 29, 2026. Under the order, PMA was required to provide fuel from its own resources.
VEDA Seeks Immediate Fuel Supply
VEDA said it had already contacted PMA twice about the issue. The company sent letters on July 31 and August 4.
However, VEDA said it received no response to either communication. The matter was later discussed during a meeting on August 6.
Representatives from VEDA and PMA attended the meeting. VEDA again explained that it lacked the financial capacity to maintain operations.
PMA reportedly said it could not make a decision without clear instructions. The authority said directions from the Punjab government were required.
The meeting ended with an understanding that PMA would suggest a solution. However, VEDA said no financial arrangement had been communicated afterward.
Metro Bus Operations Could Stop
In its final notice, VEDA demanded an uninterrupted fuel supply from PMA. The company said it could not continue running buses without immediate support.
VEDA also linked its demand to the July 29 court order. It said PMA must arrange fuel from its own resources.
The operator announced that all Lahore Metro Bus operations would be suspended from August 11. The suspension would continue unless the fuel issue is resolved.
VEDA also rejected responsibility for any potential shutdown. The company said the suspension would result from PMA’s failure to implement the court order.
It said the situation would not represent any fault or default by the operator. VEDA also maintained that it was not unwilling to continue providing the service.
Legal Dispute Could Escalate
VEDA has also reserved its contractual and legal rights. It retained the option to pursue arbitration and other available remedies.
The development could increase pressure on the Punjab government and PMA. Both sides face a deadline to resolve the fuel funding dispute.
The Lahore Metro Bus is an important transport service for daily commuters. Many passengers rely on the service for regular travel across the city.
