Bollywood actor Imran Khan is preparing to approach the Bombay High Court after Indian authorities directed him to leave the country by October 28. The notice follows his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai.

According to reports, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) issued the notice after receiving a complaint. The complaint alleged that the actor violated immigration rules by joining a demonstration on October 10.

The protest took place at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. Demonstrators called for Kumar’s resignation over revisions to voter lists.

Imran Khan is a United States citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. His legal team has reportedly started preparing a petition challenging the FRRO notice.

According to The Indian Express, his lawyers argue that existing laws do not expressly prohibit OCI cardholders from participating in protests. They are preparing to challenge the authorities’ decision through legal proceedings.

Imran Khan Challenges Notice Over Protest

Imran Khan has maintained that his participation in the demonstration was not intended to support or oppose any political party. He said his presence was about standing up for citizens’ fundamental rights.

The protest focused on changes to voter lists and demands for the chief election commissioner’s resignation. Opposition parties and critics have alleged that the revisions could benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

These allegations form part of a wider political dispute over electoral processes in India. The claims remain contested, while the actor’s case has raised questions about the rules governing foreign nationals and political demonstrations.

Imran’s legal representatives are expected to challenge the notice on legal grounds. The outcome will depend on the arguments presented and the court’s consideration of the matter.

Police Detained Actor During Mumbai Demonstration

Mumbai Police briefly detained Imran Khan during the October 10 protest. The incident drew further attention after BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a complaint against the actor.

Somaiya alleged that Imran had violated regulations governing foreign nationals by participating in the demonstration. The complaint was subsequently forwarded to the FRRO for consideration.

Following the complaint, the immigration authority issued a notice directing the actor to leave India by October 28.

After his detention, Imran shared a photograph on Instagram that appeared to show him sitting inside a police van. He captioned the post, “Apparently I’m going for a drive.”

The post attracted attention as the controversy surrounding his participation in the protest continued. His planned legal challenge now represents the next stage in the dispute.

Imran Khan’s Bollywood Career

Imran Khan, 43, comes from a prominent Bollywood family. He is the nephew of actor Aamir Khan.

He made his lead acting debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008. The film helped establish him as a popular young actor in the Indian film industry.

He later appeared in several films, including I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. These projects further strengthened his profile during his active years in Bollywood.

However, after a series of releases between 2008 and 2015, Imran stepped away from the film industry. He largely remained out of the public spotlight for several years.

His current legal dispute has brought renewed attention to the actor. The planned petition against the FRRO notice will determine how his challenge proceeds through the Indian legal system.

For now, Imran Khan is preparing to contest the order directing him to leave India. Further developments will depend on the legal proceedings and any subsequent decisions by the authorities.
