ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 to distribute 500,000 Chromebooks to eligible students across Pakistan, expanding access to digital learning for high-performing students.
The programme is being implemented through the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, with the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) providing the official registration portal.
Students can check the scheme’s requirements and application process through the official PM Youth Chromebook Scheme website.
The scheme focuses on students with strong academic performance who may face financial barriers to accessing digital learning devices. Chromebooks can help students use online educational resources, prepare assignments, conduct research and participate in technology-based learning.
During the launch ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of equipping young people with modern educational tools. He also referred to previous government laptop distribution initiatives, saying approximately 600,000 laptops had been distributed over a decade.
The scheme’s selection process is based on academic performance, with eligibility varying according to the relevant education board and region.
According to the official registration portal, top-performing Grade 9 students from government and public schools in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are being considered based on their 2026 annual examination results.
For students under the boards of Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, the portal lists top-performing students from both Grade 9 and Grade 10.
The currently published eligibility criteria specify students enrolled in government or public schools. Applicants should check the official portal for the requirements applicable to their board before starting an application.
Students in Sindh should also note that the official portal states registration will open after all Sindh examination boards announce their Grade 9 annual examination results for 2026.
Eligible students can begin by visiting the official registration website. They need to select their education board and enter the required identification or examination details, along with their date of birth, to check whether their record is available.
The portal explains that student information is checked against records supplied by the relevant examination board. Applicants who can proceed must provide the requested documents, including a recent photograph, examination mark sheet, an attested B-Form or CNIC copy, and an attested CNIC copy of their father or guardian.
Students should carefully review their information before submitting the application. The portal states that each student may apply once and that submitted forms cannot be changed independently after submission.
Applicants should save their application reference number and submission slip for future use. Students whose records do not appear should try the relevant roll number or registration number, or contact their examination board if the issue continues.
The official portal also warns applicants to provide accurate information, as false details may result in cancellation of a Chromebook allocation and further action.
Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan also addressed the launch ceremony. Reporting by The News identified the TT Care Foundation as the organisation committed to supplying devices under an agreement with the education ministry.
The government has presented the initiative as part of broader efforts to improve access to digital education and help deserving students develop skills for further study and future employment.
However, students should rely on the official registration portal for the latest eligibility rules, regional arrangements and application instructions. They should avoid unofficial websites or social media accounts claiming to guarantee a Chromebook in exchange for payment.
