Pakistan is a pioneering step to launch the world’s largest Chess in Education program on February 2, 2024 by Prime Minister H.E. Anwar ul Haq Kakar. Led by National Mind Sports and the relentless efforts of President Chess Federation of Pakistan Mr. Hanif Qureshi who is also a member of FIDE chess in education(CIE) commission , this transformative initiative is poised to revolutionize the world of education.
The goal of the Chess in Education program is not only to introduce chess as part of the compulsory school curriculum, but also to promote the all-round development of students. The main objectives are to develop critical thinking, promote strategic planning, inculcate discipline and promote youth sportsmanship.
One of the primary goals of this initiative is to harness the cognitive benefits that chess offers to young minds. Numerous studies have shown that engaging in chess can significantly contribute to the cognitive development of children. The opening ceremony of this ambitious program will be graced by honored guests including H.E. Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and H.E. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Chess Federation. FIDE MD Dana Reizinece-Ozola, FIDE Development Director GM Dr. Nigel Short and Secretary FIDE Chess in Education(CIE) Comission(EDU) Rita Atkins will also attend.
In addition, the Federal Minister for Interprovincial Coordination, H.E. Fawad Hassan Fawad, Convener Steering Committee for promotion of Mind sports and Chief Patron CFP Mr. Jauhar Saleem, Federal Secretary IPC Mr. Nadeem Irshad Kiyani , Special Secretary Education Mr. Mohyuddin Wani and other distinguished guests will attend the celebration of this monumental occasion.
