The announcement of a significant hike in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has dealt a blow to inflation-hit Pakistanis, particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadan. With a population of over 240 million facing a shortage of sui gas for energy needs, many have turned to LPG as an alternative, making this price increase particularly burdensome.
According to the recent announcement, the price of LPG has been raised by Rs30 per kg. Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Association, expressed concern over this decision, noting that OGRA has yet to issue an official notification regarding the surge in prices. He attributed the price hikes to what he described as a nexus between LPG quota holders and importers.

The official rate for LPG stands at Rs257 per kg, but it is being sold at Rs350 per kg in major cities like Lahore, with even higher prices reaching up to Rs400 per kg in hilly regions. This escalation in prices further exacerbates the financial strain already faced by many Pakistanis during Ramadan.
