The parent company of Facebook, Meta, has come under scrutiny on social media after allegations surfaced claiming that it shared users’ private messages with Netflix. Documents from a lawsuit filed against Meta in the US on Tuesday allege that the company granted Netflix access to private messages of Facebook users over a period of about ten years.
The disclosure of this information has led to widespread outrage online regarding the sharing of private messages with Netflix, particularly following reports of a lucrative deal between Meta and the streaming giant worth several hundred million dollars.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, expressed astonishment at the situation on X, further fueling public attention on the matter.
In response to the allegations, Meta’s Communications Director Andy Stone clarified on X that private messages were not shared with Netflix. Stone explained that the agreement between Netflix and Meta allowed users to share content they watched directly from the Netflix app with their Facebook friends. He emphasized that such agreements are common in the industry.
The clarification from Meta’s spokesperson aims to address concerns raised by users and the public regarding privacy and data sharing practices between tech companies.
