Protest continues on second day against former PM’s arrest

KARACHI: Protests against former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) continued in the city on Wednesday. Dozens of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, including women, protested the arrest of the party’s chief at the Millennium Mall on Dalmia Road.

To disperse the protestors, police arrested 40 people, including 13 women, and used baton charges and shelling, while unknown miscreants set fire to a police van near Safari Park. Protesters clashed with police in some areas, pelting them with stones. Due to the violence, shops and restaurants in the surrounding areas remained closed.

The police eventually gained control of the situation and reopened Rashid Minhas and Dalmia Roads to traffic. Most areas were tense until late at night, and police mobile patrols were increased.
