Weather Update: When Will Monsoon Showers Expected To Arrive In Karachi?

After enduring prolonged heat, Karachi residents received relief as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed the return of sea breezes and Monsoon Showers on Monday.

However, the Met Office forecasts hot and humid conditions in the city for the next 24 hours.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz previously indicated that monsoon showers are likely to start after July 8.

The PMD expects active monsoon showers conditions in northern and central parts of Pakistan, driven by strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal starting July 3.

Heavy to moderate rainfall is anticipated in the upper catchments of major rivers like the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab from July 2, 2024, with warnings from the Met Office about potential severe impacts from the downpour.

Yesterday, Sarfaraz mentioned that this heatwave is the most severe since the 2015 heatwave, when temperatures reached 44.8Β°C.

Humidity stood at 55%, with a sea breeze of 27 kilometers per hour, maintaining temperatures between 35Β°C and 37Β°C. The lowest recorded temperature in the past 24 hours was 31.5Β°C.

The Sindh Health Department reported 49 fatalities due to the recent heatwave, with Abbasi Hospital recording 23 deaths, Civil Hospital 18, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) 5, and Qatar Hospital 3.

In preparation for the approaching rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has activated its National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC).
