He emphasized that the protest aims to regulate Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and has no personal motives, criticizing IPPs for exploiting the public.
Despite having the option to march to D-Chowk, the protesters chose to show restraint but warned the government not to underestimate their resolve.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman accused the civil and military bureaucracy, landlords, and capitalists of imposing harsh economic policies, making it difficult for citizens and traders to afford electricity. He called for the termination of IPP contracts and reduction of expenses, criticizing the government’s handling of the situation.
Due to the protest, Murree Road from Marrir Hassan to Committee Chowk is completely blocked, and the Metro Bus Service from Saddar to Faizabad is suspended, causing major disruptions for commuters between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
