JI Protest Persists as Government forms Committee to Address Concerns

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader Liaquat Baloch announced that a technical committee will be established by the government to tackle issues related to power and tax increases, with the committee’s internal processes expected to be completed by tomorrow.

Despite this development, the JI’s sit-in at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi will persist. JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman warned that the protest could spread nationwide if the government fails to address the escalating electricity bills and taxes.

As the sit-in continued into its second day, Murree Road was blocked from Marrir Chowk to Committee Chowk by containers, causing significant disruptions to local business activities.

In response to the JI’s demands, a government delegation led by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar held discussions with JI protesters on Saturday night. Baloch reported that the initial talks were productive, clarifying that the protest aims to address public concerns rather than personal or party interests.
