Following Heavy Rainfall in the twin cities, the water level in Nullah Lai has begun rising again, leading to warnings for local authorities and residents.
Major roads in Rawalpindi—Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh, Mall Road, and Saddar Bazaar—have turned into small lakes, halting business and commercial activities citywide. Traffic is gridlocked, and traffic wardens are absent. Shops in Mochi Bazaar, Mori Bazaar, and Sadiqabad Chowk are inundated.

The Meteorological Department reports 65 mm of rain in Saidpur, 51 mm in Golra, and 110 mm in Peebokra, with Kachehri receiving 94 mm. Consequently, Nullah Lai’s water level has reached 10 feet at Katarian and 9.5 feet at Gwalamandi.
Rainwater has flooded homes in various parts of Rawalpindi, with several areas, including Shale Village, Tench Bhata, and People’s Colony, experiencing several feet of water accumulation. Residents are trapped inside their houses.
In the Military Colony area, a house collapsed due to the rain, likely caused by its proximity to a drain. Rescue teams responded, but no casualties were reported as the house was unoccupied.
Inner-city streets have become ponds, and despite three days of relentless rain, WASA and the Cantonment Board have been unable to manage the flooding. The entire Cantonment area and city streets, including underpasses, are now submerged.
