India Sets World Record for Fastest Team 50 and 100 in Test Cricket

India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, set a new Test cricket world record during Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 in their first innings, the Indian duo showcased aggressive intent, quickly accumulating runs and hitting boundaries from the outset.

They reached 50 runs in just three overs, marking the first time in Test cricket history that a team achieved this milestone within such a short span since data collection began. The previous record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket was held by England, who scored it in 26 balls against the West Indies at Trent Bridge earlier this year. India surpassed that record by reaching their fifty in just 18 balls.

Prior to this match, India’s fastest team fifty was recorded in 2008 against England in Chennai, where they reached the mark in 5.2 overs. The Indian team continued their extraordinary performance by breaking the world record for the fastest team hundred in Test cricket, reaching 100 runs in just 10.1 overs. This surpassed their previous record of 12.2 overs, set against the West Indies in 2023.

India’s impressive batting was complemented by a strong bowling effort, with Jasprit Bumrah taking 3 wickets for 50 runs. Akash Deep, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj collectively contributed to the team’s success by sharing six wickets. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja achieved a personal milestone by completing 300 Test wickets.

Despite Mominul Haque’s commendable unbeaten 107, Bangladesh struggled to add only 28 runs in the post-lunch session, finishing their innings at 233.
