PTI Decides to Join Judicial Commission for Judges Appointment

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially decided to participate in the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, a key body responsible for appointing judges to the country’s superior courts. This decision was made unanimously during a special meeting of the PTI’s political committee, where it was agreed to nominate two members from both Houses of parliament to the 13-member commission, following a letter from the National Assembly speaker.

According to the meeting’s declaration, PTI’s core committee and party founder, Imran Khan, will give final approval before the nominees are officially announced. The PTI members were briefed in detail about the responsibilities of the judicial commission, which has the expanded role of appointing judges to the Supreme Court, high courts, and Shariat Court. Additionally, the commission now oversees the performance of high court judges, prepares performance reports, and recommends candidates for high court positions.

The commission also has the authority to establish benches in high courts and the Supreme Court, with decisions being made by a simple majority vote among the 13 members.

During the briefing, the importance of two opposition members in the commission was emphasized. The PTI political committee reaffirmed its stance on the 26th constitutional amendment during the discussions.

The decision to nominate members to the Judicial Commission will be forwarded to PTI’s core committee and Imran Khan for final approval, with the proposed names to be announced thereafter.
