As Lahore struggles with hazardous smog, a proposal has been made to close all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to minimize exposure to poor air quality, which has reached critical levels.
Additionally, a “green lockdown” is suggested for key areas like Gulberg, Liberty, MM Alam Road, and the Main Market, as well as neighborhoods near Shimla Pahari, aimed at reducing pollution and protecting public health.

The Lahore Division Commissioner and the Secretary of Environment will present these proposals to Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb for approval.
It is also noteworthy that authorities recently announced a one-week closure of primary schools due to dangerously high pollution levels. Senior environmental protection official Jahangir Anwar confirmed that all classes for children up to age 10, including those in public, private, and special education institutions, will be suspended from Monday to Saturday.
The weather forecast indicates that current wind patterns will continue over the next six days, exacerbating pollution issues. The decision seeks to protect the health of millions of children affected by the dangerous smog covering the city.
