Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan initially agreed to change the protest venue during the 2022 Islamabad sit-in but was overruled by his wife, Bushra Bibi, who insisted on D-Chowk.
Asif, speaking in Sialkot, alleged that PTI’s decision led to violent clashes, resulting in the martyrdom of security personnel and injuries to hundreds. He praised law enforcement for thwarting the protest, which he described as an attack on the federal government.

He criticized PTI leaders for retreating amid resistance, calling it unprecedented in political movements. Asif claimed Bushra Bibi fled the scene alongside Ali Amin Gandapur during the chaos.
Addressing claims of mass fatalities, Asif said PTI’s reports were exaggerated, with no evidence of large-scale deaths or funerals emerging.
Separately, he welcomed the resumption of PIA’s European flights, calling it a step toward improving market presence and supporting privatization efforts.
