The National Assembly continued its discussion on the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on Sunday. During the debate, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar defended the government’s economic plan and outlined several relief measures included in the budget.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Attaullah Tarar described the budget as people-friendly and focused on providing relief to different sections of society. He said the government had taken steps to address public concerns while maintaining economic stability.
According to the minister, the budget has received a favorable response from economists, analysts, and other opinion makers. He stated that the government values constructive feedback from the opposition. However, he stressed that positive initiatives introduced in the budget should also be recognized.
Attaullah Tarar said the country has achieved macroeconomic stability due to the continuous efforts of the current government. He added that several economic indicators have improved over time, helping create a stronger foundation for future growth.
The minister also acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in supporting national economic stability. He expressed confidence that Pakistanโs economy is moving in the right direction and is now firmly on a path toward growth and development.
Discussing tax-related measures, Attaullah Tarar highlighted the relief provided to salaried individuals. He noted that people earning up to Rs. 50,000 per month are exempt from income tax. He further explained that individuals earning between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 100,000 per month will pay a tax rate of only one percent.
The information minister said these measures are designed to ease the financial burden on the salaried class. He emphasized that the government remains committed to supporting middle-income households.
He also pointed to incentives offered to exporters in the new budget. According to him, these measures will help strengthen the export sector and encourage business activity.
Attaullah Tarar further stated that relief for the construction industry and the Apna Ghar Scheme will stimulate economic growth. He said these initiatives are expected to generate employment opportunities and support related industries.
Speaking about reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the minister said new mechanisms have been introduced to improve tax collection. He added that the revised system aims to ensure that honest taxpayers do not carry the burden of those who fail to pay taxes.
