Al Jazeera Unveils India's Role in Nijjar Assassination

Al Jazeera English has released a powerful documentary exposing undeniable evidence of India’s involvement in the assassination of pro-Khalistan Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The documentary directly implicates Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, RAW officials, and its chief, Samant Goel, in orchestrating the killing. It reveals how Nijjar’s assassination in June 2023 created global diplomatic tensions, particularly between India, Canada, and the United States.

Nijjar, a strong advocate for Sikh independence and the Khalistan movement, was targeted due to his activism. Born in Punjab in 1977, he fled to Canada in 1997 after facing persecution and continued his advocacy, founding “Sikhs for Justice” in 2007.

He led the Khalistan Referendum campaign and petitioned the UN to recognize the 1984 Sikh massacre as genocide. In response, India labeled him a terrorist in 2014.

Nijjar’s murder, which Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directly attributed to the Indian government, led to a diplomatic crisis between the two nations.

The documentary also reveals an attempted assassination of Khalistan leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the U.S., with Indian intelligence agents allegedly involved. The U.S. has arrested those involved, and a New York court has summoned India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Despite ongoing investigations, Nijjar’s assassination highlights India’s alleged transnational repression of pro-Khalistan activists, raising concerns within the Sikh diaspora.
