Pakistan

Pakistan is set to launch its first indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) satellite on January 17, marking a significant achievement for the country’s space program. The satellite will be launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

The EO-1 satellite is designed to enhance Pakistan’s ability to monitor natural disasters, manage natural resources, and support sustainable development. It will be crucial in assessing agricultural productivity, monitoring irrigation needs, and helping with food security efforts. Additionally, the satellite will assist in urban development, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.

The satellite’s capabilities also extend to tracking mineral, oil, and gas fields, monitoring glacier recession, and conserving water resources. This launch demonstrates Pakistan’s growing strength in space science and technology and its commitment to using space-based solutions for societal challenges.

The launch of EO-1 is part of a broader strategy by SUPARCO, which is also preparing to participate in China’s Chang’E 8 mission to explore the moon’s surface in 2028.
