Starlink Registers in Pakistan, Plans Ground Stations Amid Licensing Process

Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, has registered with Pakistan’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SECP) as “Starlink Internet Services (Private) Limited” and plans to establish two or three ground stations in the country.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed Starlink’s ongoing efforts to obtain licenses, including a long-distance international (LDI) license and 14 local loop licenses, as part of its plans to deliver satellite-based internet. Security clearance remains a key prerequisite, with the PTA expressing optimism for resolution within a month.

The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s National Satellite Policy 2023 and Space Activities Rules 2024, requiring federal and provincial collaboration alongside SUPARCO for satellite-related activities.

Senate committee members raised concerns over Musk’s past remarks about Pakistan, suggesting licensing should be conditional on an apology, adding a political dimension to Starlink’s entry.
