WhatsApp Accuses Israeli Spyware Firm of Targeting Journalists

WhatsApp has accused Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions of attempting to hack around 90 users, including journalists and civil society members. In response, the Meta-owned platform has issued a cease-and-desist letter and pledged to safeguard user privacy.

The hacking attempt was detected and disrupted, with affected individuals referred to Citizen Lab for further investigation. While Paragon claims to sell its tools only to democratic governments, the incident has raised concerns about the misuse of surveillance technology.

Authorities, including the FBI, have yet to comment on the matter.
