In another heartbreaking maritime incident, a vessel carrying around 65 passengers, including Pakistani nationals, capsized off the coast of Libya, as confirmed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. The ill-fated boat sank near the port of Marsa Dela, located northwest of Zawiya city. The Pakistan Embassy in Tripoli immediately responded, dispatching a team to Zawiya Hospital to assist in identifying the deceased passengers.
The embassy is actively gathering further details about the Pakistani nationals involved in this tragic event. Although it remains unclear whether the passengers on board were migrants, authorities are leaving no stone unturned to provide answers to the families anxiously awaiting news.

To ensure proper communication, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated its Crisis Management Unit, which is closely monitoring the situation and providing support. Contact numbers have been released for those seeking information about their loved ones, offering both WhatsApp and mobile lines for inquiries.
This incident follows another similar tragedy last month, where a vessel capsized near Morocco with 86 passengers onboard, including 66 Pakistanis. The growing number of such cases has led to a strong crackdown on human trafficking, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently urging authorities to take decisive action against traffickers and facilitators involved in illegal migration.
In response, authorities have begun efforts to dismantle smuggling networks, including the removal of several officials from their posts for negligence. However, these tragedies highlight the dire need for stronger policies to prevent future loss of life.
