Pakistan Hit by Heavy Rain and Snowfall as Cold Wave Strengthens

Various regions, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, continue to experience intermittent rainfall for the third consecutive day. The highest recorded rainfall in Islamabad was 8mm in Saidpur. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this wet spell is expected to persist until March 1.

The ongoing downpour has disrupted the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh cricket match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, causing multiple delays.

A strong westerly system has triggered heavy rain and snowfall across northern Pakistan, resulting in road closures and hazardous travel conditions. The PMD has issued alerts for Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli, where intense precipitation may lead to slippery roads and landslides.

Authorities have advised tourists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing extreme weather conditions.

Punjab

Lahore and several other cities, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal, continue to receive light to moderate rain, accompanied by a significant drop in temperature. Some areas have also witnessed hailstorms. Farmers remain optimistic about the positive impact of this rainfall on wheat and other crops.

The cold, rainy weather has increased the demand for hot snacks, with people flocking to markets for fresh pakoras and traditional treats.

Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions and ensure proper drainage in agricultural fields to prevent waterlogging.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & Balochistan

Regions such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Malakand continue to receive heavy rain, while snowfall blankets the mountains. In Balochistan, cities like Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, and Loralai are also experiencing rainfall and snowfall, leading to a further drop in temperatures.

Murree & Northern Areas

Murree and Galliyat are witnessing persistent rain and light snowfall, enhancing the scenic beauty of the region. Water levels in rivers and streams have risen, while tourists are embracing the wintery atmosphere. The PMD forecasts that rain and snowfall will continue for the next two days.

Sindh

Most parts of Sindh remain dry, with no major rainfall reported.

Friday Weather Forecast

Mostly dry and partly cloudy conditions are expected nationwide. However, isolated rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills may occur in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, northeast Punjab, Pothohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Light to moderate fog may develop in certain plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and central/southern Punjab.
