The Sindh government has announced plans to produce a film based on the life and legacy of Abdul Sattar Edhi, the late humanitarian and founder of the Edhi Foundation, as a tribute to one of Pakistan’s most respected figures.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon shared the news during the closing ceremony of a film festival in Karachi. He revealed that the provincial government will be partnering with renowned filmmaker Satish Anand to bring Edhi’s remarkable story to the big screen.

Highlighting the power of cinema as a tool for national storytelling, Memon stressed the importance of honoring real-life heroes through film. He lamented that while India actively uses films to shape narratives and global perspectives, Pakistan has yet to fully embrace cinema’s potential in this regard.
He also pointed out that Indian filmmakers are reportedly planning to produce around 100 films about recent tensions with Pakistan, while Pakistan still lacks similar initiatives. Memon emphasized that Pakistan has countless inspiring stories to share, with Abdul Sattar Edhi’s life being among the most important.
Calling Edhi a symbol of compassion and humanitarianism, the minister said it is essential for the younger generation to learn about his work, and that cinema can serve as a powerful medium to preserve his legacy.
“Everyone in today’s Pakistan knows about Edhi Sahib, but if his story isn’t passed on, future generations may forget the depth of his contributions,” Memon stated.
While the film project has been confirmed, details such as the cast, production schedule, and release date have not yet been disclosed.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in July 2016 at the age of 88. His legacy lives on through the Edhi Foundation, which continues to provide a wide range of services including ambulance support, orphan care, and shelter facilities across Pakistan.
