Karachi Roof Collapse Leaves Two Women Dead in Lyari

KARACHI (July 17, 2025): A tragic roof collapse in Karachi’s Lyari area has left two women dead and three others injured, according to rescue officials.

The incident occurred in a residential building located in the Baghdadi area of Lyari. Initial reports suggest that the roof of either the fifth or sixth floor gave way, causing the structure to fall.

Rescue teams quickly reached the scene after receiving reports of the collapse. An operation was launched to retrieve the victims and provide medical help to the injured. All injured individuals were moved to a nearby hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arif Aziz confirmed that the incident took place within the Baghdadi Police Station limits. He stated that an investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.

This marks the second roof collapse incident in Lyari this month. Earlier, on July 4, a six-storey building collapsed in the same Baghdadi locality. That incident claimed the lives of 27 people and left 8 others injured.

The earlier collapse also caused heavy damage to more than 50 rickshaws and motorcycles parked in the area. Women and children were among those who lost their lives.

Following the July 4 disaster, the Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori visited the site and met with the affected families. He later announced that families of the victims would receive 80-yard residential plots. He also promised ration supplies for the affected households.

A preliminary report on that tragedy found 14 individuals, including six Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) directors, responsible for negligence and failure to enforce safety regulations.

The latest incident in Lyari has raised fresh concerns about building safety in densely populated urban areas. Locals have demanded strict action against those responsible and better monitoring of construction standards.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged residents to report any visibly weak or damaged structures to avoid further tragedies.
