A section of the Murree Expressway has been closed to traffic after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The incident has raised concerns about road safety in the region, which often faces such challenges during the monsoon season.
According to the Murree deputy commissioner, continuous rain caused large rocks to fall from nearby hills, blocking one lane of the road. As a precaution, the damaged portion of the Murree Expressway has been completely sealed off to ensure public safety. However, other sections of the highway remain open and functional for motorists.
The district administration has launched immediate clearance and repair work. Teams are working to remove debris and assess the structural condition of the road. Authorities stated that full restoration will be carried out once safety checks are completed.
Meanwhile, a public advisory has been issued, urging citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall. Officials also warned against visiting hilly areas, where the chances of further landslides remain high. Travelers have been asked to stay informed through official updates and follow safety guidelines.
The Murree Expressway is a vital route connecting the hill station to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It is widely used by tourists and daily commuters. Authorities emphasized that ensuring the safety of travelers remains their top priority, and the road will be reopened only after clearance operations are complete.
Frequent rainfall and unstable terrain make landslides a recurring challenge in the area. Local officials have advised drivers to remain cautious, especially when traveling during bad weather conditions.
