Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued urgent directions to address the worsening flood situation in Punjab. According to an official statement, PM orders federal ministers to immediately visit flood-affected districts and personally monitor evacuation and relief activities.
The prime minister instructed ministers to remain present in their constituencies and supervise rescue operations on the ground. He stressed that all efforts must focus on saving lives and ensuring timely support for affected families.
In addition, PM orders the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to remain on high alert. The NDMA chairman has been directed to coordinate closely with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to deliver quick alerts and guarantee swift relocation of people from vulnerable areas.
The premier emphasized that evacuation from riverbanks, especially near the Chenab, Sutlej, and Ravi rivers, should be carried out without delay. He underlined that timely relocation is essential to protect lives as water levels continue to rise.
The statement also highlighted that relief operations must be accelerated, with stronger coordination among all institutions. The prime minister noted that the scale of the challenge requires effective teamwork between federal and provincial agencies.
Meanwhile, the NDMA confirmed it is monitoring river flows and has issued warnings for districts at high risk of flooding. Authorities have been asked to keep shelters ready for displaced families and provide food, clean water, and medical support in affected regions.
By stepping up supervision and coordination, the government aims to minimize damage and ensure that resources reach those in urgent need. With heavy rainfall forecasts continuing, the focus remains on swift evacuation, effective relief, and safety of vulnerable communities.
