Pakistanβs leading telecom operators, Jazz and Zong, have announced Free Calls to all networks and PTCL for customers in flood-affected regions of Punjab. The initiative aims to help residents stay connected during the ongoing emergency.
Heavy rains and overflowing rivers have caused severe damage in cities including Narowal, Kartarpur, Sialkot, Wazirabad, Gujrat, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal. Homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods have been severely impacted, making communication crucial for safety and relief.
Jazz has partnered with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to operate a mobile-based Early Warning System (EWS). This system has sent over 200 million alerts nationwide, including evacuation warnings along the Chenab River, helping residents respond quickly to flooding threats.
Zong has introduced a relief package offering 30 free on-net minutes and SMS for residents in the hardest-hit districts. This support ensures that families can access emergency services and remain in touch with loved ones during the crisis.
The company previously provided similar assistance to flood-affected areas in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
By offering Free Calls, both Jazz and Zong are easing communication barriers for flood-affected communities. Officials stressed that the services allow residents to focus on safety, evacuation, and recovery instead of worrying about call charges.
The telecom companies reaffirmed their commitment to both immediate relief and long-term support. With continuous efforts, they aim to help communities recover faster and remain connected during emergencies.
This move highlights the critical role of telecom services in disaster response and the importance of keeping communication lines open for affected populations.
