Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has proposed a joint effort with Pakistan Railways to revive the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). He stressed that the long-delayed project is essential for Karachi’s growing transport needs.
During a meeting with Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, Shah recommended outsourcing railway operations to improve efficiency and service delivery. He also highlighted the importance of upgrading the Karachi-to-Rohri rail line to ensure smooth travel for thousands of daily commuters.
In response, Railways Minister Abbasi announced that the government will launch new passenger train service from Karachi to Sukkur. The project will cost Rs 6 billion and aims to provide better travel options for people of Sindh. Abbasi assured that modern facilities, including air conditioning, would be available on this route.
The decision to launch new passenger train service is part of a broader plan to modernize the country’s rail infrastructure. Abbasi confirmed that all outdated rail tracks in Karachi will be replaced with new ones to ensure safety and reliability.
The meeting also addressed the issue of encroachments along railway lines, which have slowed down development. Both federal and provincial authorities agreed to remove these obstacles to speed up progress.
Shah further emphasized that the Karachi Circular Railway must be revived without further delays. He said that connecting Karachi with other key cities through reliable train services would ease traffic pressure and support economic growth.
The federal minister agreed and added that Pakistan Railways is committed to expanding services across Sindh. The initiative to launch new passenger train projects is expected to strengthen connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide commuters with affordable and modern transportation.
