NEW YORK – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned the recent strikes in Doha, expressing regret over the loss of civilian lives. The council issued a press statement on September 9, stressing the importance of de-escalation in the region.
While the UNSC did not directly name Israel, which carried out the attacks, members voiced solidarity with Qatar. They reaffirmed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, in line with the principles of the UN Charter.
The council also highlighted Qatar’s key role in regional mediation efforts. Alongside Egypt and the United States, Qatar continues to contribute to diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions. Members emphasized that releasing hostages, ending the war in Gaza, and easing the suffering of civilians must remain top priorities.
They urged all parties to take advantage of ongoing diplomatic efforts to move closer to peace. The UNSC reiterated that lasting stability requires cooperation and a commitment to dialogue.
Meanwhile, Pakistan voiced strong criticism of Israel’s actions during the council’s emergency meeting on the Middle East. Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, described the strikes as “illegal and unprovoked aggression” against Qatar.
He added that Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the government and people of Qatar. He also emphasized Qatar’s right, under the UN Charter, to take necessary steps to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The latest statement from the UNSC reflects growing international concern over the situation in Doha. Calls for restraint, accountability, and renewed diplomacy continue to shape the global response to the crisis.
