ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has urged the Commonwealth Observer Group to officially release its findings on the February 8, 2024, general elections. PTI claims the delayed report has exposed serious flaws in the electoral process.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the leaked document pointed to systemic rigging and political bias. According to him, the report showed PTI was denied its election symbol, while party founder Imran Khan faced multiple convictions that barred him from contesting. He argued that these actions deprived voters of a fair choice.
Waqas alleged that the leaked report highlighted manipulation of election forms, including discrepancies in Form 45 and changes in vote counts on Form 46 and 47. He added that PTI members faced mass arrests, office raids, and internet restrictions during the campaign, while rivals were allowed to operate freely.
He further claimed that courts lifted Nawaz Sharif’s lifetime ban before nominations, enabling his political comeback, while PTI leaders were selectively disqualified. Waqas described this as legal favoritism.
The PTI spokesman also linked the government’s actions to wider national concerns. He said citizens struggling with inflation and flood recovery had been ignored. He criticized the government for failing to reduce fuel prices and for showing “indifference” to those affected.
On security matters, Waqas said terrorism was resurging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He blamed what he called a flawed counterterrorism strategy, arguing the government was more focused on silencing PTI than addressing militancy. He opposed the decision to shift the Frontier Corps headquarters from Peshawar to Islamabad, calling it politicization of national security.
He urged the government to release pending funds promised to KP under the National Action Plan after the FATA merger. Waqas said that instead of targeting opponents, the government should prioritize education, healthcare, and jobs to reduce militancy.
PTI maintained that making the Commonwealth Observer Group’s report public was essential for transparency and accountability.
