Tyler Robinson: Charlie Kirk Assassination Suspect Charged

Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has been formally charged in Utah. Prosecutors confirmed seven criminal counts, including aggravated murder, firearm discharge causing injury, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering.

Authorities say Robinson, 22, fired a rifle shot from a rooftop during Kirk’s rally at Utah Valley University in Orem. The single bullet struck Kirk in the neck, leading to his death. Court documents reveal Robinson allegedly confessed in private messages to his roommate and partner.

According to prosecutors, Robinson wrote: β€œI had enough of his hatred.” He is also accused of leaving a note declaring his intent to target Kirk. The rifle used in the shooting reportedly belonged to his grandfather, with DNA evidence linking it to Robinson.

Utah County District Attorney Jeffrey Gray announced that the state will pursue the death penalty. At a press briefing, Gray emphasized that the decision was made solely on the evidence and the nature of the crime.

Robinson made his first court appearance via video from jail, dressed in a suicide prevention vest. He spoke only to confirm his name. The judge ruled he would remain in custody without bail. A court-appointed lawyer will represent him at the next hearing, scheduled for September 29.

The killing, which was captured on video and spread widely online, has drawn strong reactions. Leaders across the political spectrum condemned the act of violence. President Donald Trump publicly called for capital punishment in the case.

Investigators said Robinson was at large for more than 30 hours before surrendering. During that time, he allegedly sent his roommate instructions to destroy evidence and delete incriminating texts. He also expressed regret about leaving the rifle hidden nearby.

The case has fueled nationwide debate about political violence in the United States, with concerns that the attack could inspire further unrest.
