The recent Emmy Awards have sparked debate after fans noticed a major omission. The annual In Memoriam segment, which honors stars who passed away, did not include wrestling legend Hulk Hogan in its televised portion.
Hogan, who died at 71 in July after cardiac arrest, was a household name for decades. He rose to fame as a leading figure in WWE, then known as the WWF. Beyond wrestling, he appeared in films like Rocky III and No Holds Barred and led TV projects such as Thunder in Paradise and Hogan Knows Best.
His absence from the on-air tribute led to criticism. While his name appeared in an extended version online, many felt the wrestler deserved a place in the broadcast itself. This omission is now being widely discussed as an Emmys In Memoriam snub.
Linda Hogan, the late star’s ex-wife, expressed disappointment over the decision. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said she believed politics might have played a role. Hogan was an open supporter of former U.S. President Donald Trump and made appearances at his campaign events before the 2024 election.
“I can’t prove that,” Linda clarified, admitting it was only her guess. But she added that her former husband’s contributions to entertainment should have been recognized. She noted, “Hulk had the highest ratings on NBC, beating competition for years.”
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has not commented directly on the exclusion. In past years, the Emmys have explained that time limits during live broadcasts often prevent every name from being included on-air. Additional tributes are instead listed online.
For many fans, however, this explanation falls short. Hogan was not only a wrestling superstar but also a pop culture figure who bridged sports and entertainment. His omission has fueled ongoing debates about how the Emmys decide who is recognized on television versus online.
