Shaheen Afridi Creates T20I Record in Pakistan’s Win Over Bangladesh

DUBAI – Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi delivered a match-winning performance as his side secured an 11-run victory against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Super 4. The win also confirmed Pakistan’s place in the tournament final.

Batting first, Pakistan set a modest target of 136 runs. In reply, Bangladesh managed only 124 for nine in 20 overs, falling short despite several small partnerships.

Shaheen Afridi was the standout performer of the match. He took three wickets for just 17 runs, including two crucial early dismissals that gave Pakistan control. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award. This was his 10th such honor in T20 internationals, making him the fast bowler with the highest number of Player of the Match awards in the format.

The left-arm pacer also made a handy contribution with the bat. He scored 19 runs off 13 balls, hitting two sixes at a crucial stage of the innings. His all-round performance highlighted his growing importance in Pakistan’s T20 setup.

Alongside Shaheen Afridi, fellow pacer Haris Rauf also impressed, claiming three wickets. Together, the pace duo returned combined figures of 6-50 in their eight overs, ensuring Pakistan successfully defended one of their lowest totals against Bangladesh in T20 cricket.

Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz added support with the ball, taking two wickets and one wicket respectively. Their disciplined bowling restricted Bangladesh’s middle and lower order, preventing any late comeback.

The victory showcased Pakistan’s bowling strength, particularly in pressure situations. It also underlined Afridi’s ability to perform on big occasions, cementing his reputation as one of the most reliable match-winners in T20 cricket.

With this win, Pakistan advanced confidently to the Asia Cup final, carrying momentum and belief in their bowling attack.
