NUST Scientists Among World’s Top 2% Researchers In 2025

A remarkable 47 NUST scientists have been recognised among the world’s top 2% researchers in 2025. The global ranking, compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier, evaluated over 100,000 leading researchers worldwide.

The number of NUST scientists on the list has steadily risen in recent years, reflecting the university’s strong research ecosystem. In 2022, 23 researchers were recognised, increasing to 31 in 2023, 43 in 2024, and now 47 in 2025. Among them, 26 NUST scientists have consistently appeared on the list year after year, highlighting sustained excellence.

These achievements underscore NUST’s commitment to research and development, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s higher education and scientific progress. According to QS World University Rankings 2025-26, NUST is ranked #371 globally, #67 in Asia, and #6 in South Asia.

The ranking methodology is based on a composite index of multiple bibliometric indicators, including citations, h-index, and authorship positions across various disciplines. The 47 NUST scientists in 2025 represent 15 fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Signal Processing, Materials, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nanotechnology, Biomedical, Physics, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Design & Manufacturing, Humanities, Mathematics, and Fluid Mechanics.

Dr Miraj Mustafa, Dr Irfan Ahmad Rana, Dr Mubasher Jamil, Dr Tayyaba Noor, and Dr Muhammad Usman Akram are among the NUST scientists recognised, along with Dr Safia Akram, Dr Iftikhar Hussain Gul, Dr Rizwan Ul Haq, Dr Muhammad Bilal Khan Niazi, Dr Asif Hussain Khoja, and many others. Their contributions span research, innovation, and academic leadership, enhancing NUST’s global reputation.

NUST scientists continue to drive transformative research, producing high-impact publications and innovations that advance both local and international scientific communities. The university’s supportive research environment, coupled with access to cutting-edge facilities, enables these scholars to excel in their respective fields.

The increasing presence of NUST scientists on the global top 2% list demonstrates the institution’s growing influence and its pivotal role in elevating Pakistan’s research profile worldwide.
