Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a major digitalization plan for all toll plazas in the province, replacing traditional paper slips with a modern electronic toll collection system.
According to details shared in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the project will be launched under a “One App, One System” model, similar to the motorway’s e-toll mechanism. The system will initially cover 38 toll plazas across Punjab. Officials said the initiative will make toll collection faster, more transparent, and free from manual errors.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz Sharif also approved public-private partnership models for the construction and rehabilitation of five major roads. Under this arrangement, private companies will manage the maintenance and upkeep of these routes. Officials informed her that the province had saved Rs40 billion through e-tendering, marking a new milestone in cost efficiency.
The Chief Minister directed authorities to install solar-powered streetlights on all new roads to promote energy conservation. She also approved several beautification projects in Lahore, including upgrades to the Railway Station, Misri Shah, Data Darbar, Aik Moriya, and Do Moriya bridges. Plans include a mini-train for children, a new fountain, and improved footpaths within a three-kilometer radius of the Lahore Railway Station.
Officials from the Communications and Works Department briefed that 54 bridges, 142 culverts, and 858 roads damaged during floods had been fully repaired. They also shared that the 93-kilometer Multan–Vehari Road will be Punjab’s first dust-free highway, expected to finish by June 2026.
Additionally, the Maryam Nawaz Sharif-led government aims to launch 2,341 road projects under the Chief Minister’s Local Roads Programme by December, covering over 5,200 kilometers. These projects are set for completion by mid-2026.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed her commitment to digital governance, infrastructure improvement, and sustainable urban development across Punjab.
