Real Reason Behind iPhone 17 Pro Turning Pink Shocks Users

Real Reason Behind iPhone 17 Pro Turning Pink Shocks Users

A growing number of iPhone 17 Pro users have reported a strange issue with their devices. Owners of the Cosmic Orange edition claim their phones are slowly turning pink, sparking an online debate on Reddit known as “Colorgate.”

The reports suggest that the bright orange color of some iPhone 17 Pro units is fading into a reddish-pink shade. While only a small number of users seem affected, the topic has gained attention across social media platforms.

So far, Apple has not commented on the issue. However, early analysis points to possible chemical reactions rather than a manufacturing defect. Experts believe the problem could be linked to cleaning products containing hydrogen peroxide — a substance known to damage anodized metal finishes.

Understanding the iPhone 17 Pro’s Titanium Finish

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature a titanium frame with an anodized coating. This finish provides strength and durability while allowing Apple to produce deeper, richer colors such as Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue. However, titanium interacts differently with dye compared to aluminum, making it more sensitive to certain chemicals.

Apple’s official cleaning guide warns users not to use products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Instead, the company recommends wipes with up to 70% isopropyl alcohol or 75% ethyl alcohol. Science supports this advice — hydrogen peroxide can break down dye molecules used in anodized coatings, potentially leading to fading or color shifts.

Online Speculation and Apple’s Silence

Some users have suggested that UV exposure or heat might also contribute to the discoloration, though there’s no proof yet. Apple has neither confirmed nor denied any internal investigation into “Colorgate.”

This isn’t the first time iPhone models have faced such controversies. Previous issues like “scratchgate” and “bendgate” also created buzz among users. For now, experts recommend following Apple’s cleaning guidelines to avoid further color changes.
