Karachi Traffic Police Bizarre Attempt to Evade E-Challan Caught on Camera

KARACHI: A traffic police officer in Karachi has come under public criticism after being caught on camera attempting to dodge the city’s e-challan system.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the traffic police official riding a motorcycle with an incomplete number plate. According to reports, the officer had deliberately removed part of his bike’s number plate to avoid being detected by surveillance cameras monitoring traffic violations.

The footage, filmed near the Expo Center by a concerned citizen, also shows the officer signaling right but turning left, raising further concerns about road safety and the professional conduct of law enforcement personnel.

So far, authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident. However, the video has sparked outrage among social media users, who condemned the act as a clear violation of both traffic police rules and ethical standards. Many have called for strict disciplinary action against the officer involved.

The controversy comes as Karachi’s e-challan system continues to stir public debate. Within just five days of its launch, more than 5,700 fines have been issued to drivers for various violations, including not wearing seat belts and using mobile phones while driving.

Interestingly, several government vehicles have also been fined, with reports confirming that 30 out of 35 official cars were caught breaking traffic laws.

Key traffic hotspots such as Hasan Square, Metropole, and Baloch Pul have become major centers of enforcement under the new system. Motorcyclists without helmets and signal violators are facing particularly heavy penalties.
