KARACHI β The Karachi Traffic Police have announced new rules for motorists regarding the e-challan system to promote road safety and encourage timely fine payments.
According to the latest policy, citizens who receive their first e-challan and submit an apology will be exempted from paying the fine. However, for the second e-challan, drivers will get a 50% discount if they clear the fine within 14 days.
Officials clarified that if an e-challan is not paid within 21 days, the full fine amount will apply without any discounts.
The Karachi Traffic Police also highlighted that the fine for running a red signal on a motorcycle is Rs. 5,000. But if the motorist pays within 14 days, they will only need to pay Rs. 2,500. Authorities further stated that all e-challans settled within two weeks of issuance will qualify for the discount offer.
In addition to these reforms, Karachiβs traffic department has introduced new speed limit regulations across major city roads. The move aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents, according to Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pir Muhammad Shah.
As per the new guidelines, the speed limit for motorcycles and light transport vehicles (LTVs) has been fixed at 60 kilometres per hour. For heavy transport vehicles (HTVs), the maximum limit will be 30 kilometres per hour.

To ensure strict enforcement, a modern speed-monitoring system equipped with high-definition cameras is being installed across the city. Authorities are also fitting tracking devices in 10,000 heavy vehicles. These devices will be linked to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS), allowing real-time monitoring of rule violations.
The new e-challan and traffic rules are part of the departmentβs broader efforts to make Karachiβs roads safer and more disciplined.
