Flight operations of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) remained severely affected for the second consecutive day as the engineers’ protest continued over unpaid dues and service-related grievances.
Sources said several domestic and international flights were delayed or canceled after engineers refused to clear aircraft for departure. The protesting staff claimed that their pending allowances and overtime payments had not been released despite repeated assurances from the management.
The engineers’ association stated that flight safety is their top priority but insisted that normal operations would not resume until their demands are met. “We have been working under pressure for months without compensation. Now, we want written guarantees,” one representative said.
PIA management acknowledged the disruptions and confirmed that talks with the engineers’ union were ongoing to resolve the matter. A spokesperson said efforts were being made to restore normal flight operations and minimize passenger inconvenience.
Passengers across major airports, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, faced long delays and cancellations, with some international travelers stranded overnight. Social media platforms were flooded with complaints over lack of communication from the airline.
The PIA flight disruptions have added to the airline’s growing operational challenges amid its ongoing restructuring efforts. Officials warned that if the standoff persists, it could lead to further cancellations and heavy financial losses for the national carrier.
As negotiations continue, both sides expressed hope that an agreement could be reached soon to end the crisis and resume normal flight schedules.
